Choosing colors for your interior or exterior painting project can be daunting.  With thousands of options to pick from, you’re often left with what I’ll call “color FOMO” – fear of missing out on your dream colors.

Why do we want our customers to feel comfortable and confident in their color choices?

  1. It saves them money.  Painting your house one time is a lot, but painting it a second time because you weren’t happy with the color?  Yeah…
  2. It removes anxiety.  It’s never a good idea to go into a project saying, “it’ll look better on the ENTIRE house…”
  3. It builds anticipation.  When you’re excited, we’re excited.

We get it…painting your house is a huge deal.  Yes, it helps maintain your investment but it also aids in creating a safe and comfortable space for you and your loved ones.

Is that your final answer?

So let’s get into why you’re actually reading this blog post.  Here are a few of our go-to suggestions for selecting your dream colors.

1. Pinterest…duh!

Yep.  I said it.  Why reinvent the wheel?  Many colors are tried and true, and gleaning from the experience of others can help get you on the right track.

Considering a color from a company we’re not contracted with?  No problem. If Dunn Edwards doesn’t have a match on file…they can get one.

2.  Visit your local Dunn Edwards (or any other paint store).

Now be careful, because this can be an overwhelming experience if you go in with no point of reference.  So before getting in your car, I’d suggest having at least a shade in mind.

After sifting through the infamous “paint card wall” and making a few selections,  purchase 8oz sample containers to take home and brush a few squares around the soon-to-be-painted areas.  Keep in mind, this is where the rubber meets the road, so put those bad boys up in several places so you can see them in different lighting scenarios. Glance at them, stare at them, live with them for a day or two.  Give them the dignity of a piece of art.

3.  Schedule an appointment with a color consultant.

Some of us just don’t have an eye for these things, and getting the advice of a professional could be exactly what you need!  These folks can tell you what colors are most popular, what works best in different situations, and which colors pair or accent well.  Dunn Edwards has kindly made this service available to our customers for free, and we strongly suggest taking advantage of it.
